Possibly, but I think the best explanation for the tops of the letters and the rim merging is circulation wear.

In my opinion the Exact Opposite. I believe the die struck this Washington quarter Strong, If it did not, The Devices would be Very Worn Also, they are Not as Much Worn.The wear shown is Exactly that, Circulation Wear. As stated Prior, Great Pictures, Thanks for Sharing.....Jmo.....

it has been so long since worn silver coins were commonly seen, we've forgotten what coins with honest wear look like

Light weight would have nothing to do with LPS. Edges are wore more than the surface. Looks like someone sanded off the edges.
