I have a special affinity for this coin. When we were young in the fifties and early sixties this was the toughest penny of that decade and to find an uncirculated row is a dream. Congrats and thanks for sharing.

Wasn't this one of the last coins they minted at the San Francisco mint before its temporary closure?

I couldn't resist popping out the first coin...won't be able to actually go through the roll until after work though. Looks promising.

Wow you must love your job to resist looking through them lol. Mind if I ask what you paid for the roll?

Cool. Resist handing the coins with fingers (cotton gloves would be valuable here). Don't want to risk passing oils (fingerprints) onto those raw surfaces.

I'm not sure how to reply on this forum yet but jvcv I paid $5 for the roll. Generally my coin store sells me wheaties at 5 cents each but since the owner knows how enthusiastic I am as a new collector he sold me this roll for $0.10 a penny. No idea if it was a deal or not but the pennies are definitely shiny inside it seems!

ijn1944 I was told graders don't use gloves. I'm so torn on the glove convo. Some have told me to use cotton, others have said to use rubber, many just say hold it by the rim bare handed.
And then there is storing them, do I put them back in the roll or put every penny in a 2x2? Or just the nicest ones? So much to consider.

From experience, I know what it's like to handle fresh cooper wheat cents with fingers on the rims--and inadvertently leave a partial finger print, forever altering the coin. Good quality (and clean) cotton gloves work well, medical-grade exam gloves work too. Get the best coins into 2x2s for quick, safe storage. Err on the side of protecting as many of the coins you feel need it. Longer term storage can be addressed later as personal needs/ preferences change.
Those fresh copper surfaces seem to beg for tarnish... I've been there.
