The recent post of a nice 1859 got me looking at my small hoard of about 12 (that's what I love about this forum) - no luck on the posted variety. However I have this one I wonder about - it has a quadruple C in Canada - I believe re-punched is the right term. It also has a re-punched 5 in the date. Is this a known variety? Thanks in advance.

OMG - I didn't know about that site - now I need to take a Class on how to use it!
I think I found the image for the suggested OBV 59: https://www.vickycents.com/can-group-j.html
but it doesn't show the quad punch like mine - what am I missing?
Thanks much for showing me that site!!

Go to the Haxby site and click on "ID my coin", then click on the area/letter/digit that makes yours different, in this case the C in Canada and find your coin and try to match the Reverses that match your Obverse:

I studied it some more and you are bang on 45a+J3
I am Very impressed you could figure it out from my pictures. And that site is great - I just need a lot more magnification to see the details.
Again, Much appreciated!!

I have gone through 5 of my better grades and 'think' I have matched them - it is tough going for me but I think is getting easier as I can recall more of the markers.
I am using the suggested method on the site - starting on the reverse with leaf 7 and working through the guide.
In order to see my coin I must move to the window with bright sun and use a 16x loop. Then go back to the computer, then back to the window, back to the computer... you get the image lol
I have divided the remaining ones into two piles - with the large gap in the vine at leaf 7 and with the small gap. I don't see the other gaps but perhaps I am missing them.
Next I will go through the small piles together to see if that helps me ID each one.

Rather than the gap at 7 to start, if you have a repunched digit or two, that may be quicker. Just remember that ALL 1859's have a vine break/gap at 13, then the one at 7 starts later from little to large and then, much later the vine break/gap at 2. I've worked on the 1859 varieties for over 25 years and the fun never stops. However, I don't use, but rather just suggest other's use the Haxby site, though I have loaned well over 1000 1859's to those that work on the site, including Jim Haxby. Once you start, you have a hard time quitting. Thank heavens that there were more than 9 million minted, so raw examples are still around.
