Wondering if this is worth sending for grading and slabbing? It's been in this holder for over 60 years. It shows some very light hazing but no deep scratches or dents. The reverse is particularly smooth. Wondering if it might fetch an MS-6x...?

Value-wise it doesn't seem worth slabbing unless you have other reasons. Even in MS65 it's only a ~$200 coin. If it's been in that holder 60 years, that was back when it was considered a key date. Not anymore... :(

I think your Morgan is uncirculated. My guess would be MS63-ish given the cheek. It is very well struck for a New Orleans dollar. As @kbbpll stated, it isn't an uncommon issue, so the grading fees probably wouldn't be recouped if sold. I'd just keep it in it's old 2x2 unless you desire added protection. In that case, a coin capsule is a great option.

Pics too dark to see surface details clearly, but my guess is this is not worth grading.

Thanks, everyone. I wish I could get a better picture. The marks you see are very light rubs, there are no real bag nicks or scratches. I examined a lot of MS63 high-res photos, and this coin is definitely better, so I'm betting on MS65. I'll never know unless I send it in, and I can't expect to sell it for a good price either, if I don't. So, while it may be a poor investment, I'll go ahead and see what happens.

Tried to get better pictures ... as good as I can without removing the coin from the 2x2 cellophane holder. Unfortunately those rubs look like deep scratches and nicks, but those are just shadows. They are surface marks / hazing with no depth at all. Oh well, let's see what NGC comes back with.

AU58 to MS62 .
Enviro issues .
At best a fifty dollar coin
that will cost you a minimum
of 23 + 10 + 12 + 10 (fee + handling +return ship
+ your ship to them ) . Not to mention two months
turnaround time .
IMHO a complete waste of your time and money .
Usually never a good idea to get something graded
where the cost exceeds the value of the coin .
Newbies and beginners hear about grading and think
that is where I need to go , when the exact opposite
is true . But hey . your time , your money!

This won't grade high enough to justify the grading costs. If you're going to send it to NGC anyway, you may as well take it out of the 2x2 to photograph. You might get better pics.

They really want all submissions to be in Crown sized soft flips anyways so take it out of the 2x2 mylar holder. My guess through the mylar plastic is MS62 maybe a stretch to MS63 on a good day.
