New to the forums, but so disgusted with seeing people get ripped off that I thought I'd take a stab at my first post. There have been previous discussions about SGS, however, I think the more people that can report policy violations to ebay the better chance we have of protecting new collectors. I LOVE coins and have tons of different ones - been on an ASE kick for past few months . My boys aren't so interested ... now, but wait until they get older! So, I'd like to open this up to all of you - one post, one place, most recent abusers of fraudulent grading. I've reported multiple items for both in past few weeks, and will continue to do so until they're stopped. aboncom (SGS) http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/aboncomdebockestate (NES) http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/debockestate

Welcome to the forum ShanerX.
Not that I support either of these sellers, but what makes their listings be in violation of ebays policies?

Not really in violation, but then again they are knowingly selling SGS crap.

Their auctions are legit as far as I can tell. The only thing they are guilty of is selling slabbed coins that are overgraded I do like their new slabs with the hole for the mintmark though

Wow ... thanks for all the responses ... and I agree with ALL of them! Neither seller I mentioned is 'officially word-for-word' violating ebay policy, which is what irritates me the most. I'm not here to debate or argue. I'm looking to a resource to assist with protecting a huge facet of human culture - the numismatist. To quickly paraphrase the 'Selling Currency' policy: "When listing a certified coin, the coin must be certified by one of the following authorized grading companies ... NGC, NCS, PCGS, ICG, ANACS" With that in mind ... ebay should stick to their wording. Some find it ok to duplicate an acceptable form of representation, when in fact the product is not as described, merely an opinion (in fine print). That ... that is the problem. They have taken an approved product (authorized slabbed coins) and fraudulently implied that they have the same. For instance: I acquire 50 pair of Levi's jeans, all new, real cheap. They have no tags, factory defect or otherwise not fit for retail. I do some research and see that 550's sell for about $35, so I list them on ebay starting at $17.99. Heck yeah they're gonna sell ... but are they 550's? So, the novice person, who likes Levi's instead of Wrangler, sees the deal and the picture and thinks "man, this is a great deal!". Until the person gets a brand new pair of 545's. Not fun, not fair, not nice. Just one person that learned a lesson, just one birthday gift that has to be exchanged, or just one person that looses that enlightening internet experience. On the other hand, you must be an educated consumer and lessons should be learned. I just don't get that 'happy' feeling from these people. So they make some big bucks and some are happy, I just wouldn't want to see faces of the other 10,000 people. When in doubt, I assume I have a MS/PR69, and would never try to tell anyone they were getting a "perfect" MS/PR70. The American dream is to get a piece of the pie. I believe you should work hard to get that ... not rip people off. I've not lost hundreds on junk coins, and I agree that watching their listings will inevitably get you that $100 coin for $50 with Free Shipping. But, what about everyone else ... ?

Quote: When listing a certified coin, the coin must be certified by one of the following authorized grading companies ... NGC, NCS, PCGS, ICG, ANACS If they only allowed coins that are entombed from those particular companies then you wouldn't be allowed to sell a coin in a 2x2 with a simple grade written in ink on it You really aren't gonna find anyone that will argue your point but the rules are fine as they are. Too many rules kills the little guy and rewards the big guy that brings enough business that ebay might turn a blind eye.

Raw uncertified coins taped in a 2x2, or loose, aren't "certified" coins. There are exceptions to the policy and the specifics of those types of coins are explained in the full policy, which is just way too long to post here. If they were to slab the coin(s) without the fake label, I would have absolutely NO objection to the listings. I sell almost all my UNC coins, mostly State Quarters, in AirTites, so I completely understand. I AM the little guy! I honor my coins ... if UNC ... then they stay UNC! If I touch it, drop it, or the cat gets one off my desk I would never slab it and 'in my opinion' label it as a perfect UNC coin just because it's shiny.

Thank you ... I think my goal is just to create an awareness, in case there is anyone searching this site for information from trusted resources. "We can circumnavigate the globe with information virally within 4 hours ... but no one except you can stop the instantaneous click of the "Bid Now" button." (hey, someone should quote me on that! I'm just fired up tonight for some reason ... ebay drives me crazy!)

That's what I have always said. Why anyone would send their coins to these so called TPG is beyond me. They are grossly inexperienced in grading by evidence of SGS which commonly puts a MS63RD Lincoln in a MS70RD slab. Not to mention their slabs are crap. Within 2 Months that RD coin will be BN. I pulled apart an SGS "graded" slab apart with my bare hands! PCGS,NGC,ANACS,ICG.....period

Glad someone has raised awareness. I did but 2 coins from aboncom (SGS)in the past. Big mistake and BOTH coins turned out to be cleaned. They were advertised as MS65-PL $1 Morgans.

hello, anyone ever bought coins crom centsles and or world_coinz in Florida? ( seems to be same outfit with same address) they have a slabbing operation going and also a very profitable selling streak on ebay. most coins, as long as the coins are shiny, are MS and better, up to MS 70...with tiny scratches...They call themselves NNC ( national numismatic certification) they even certify fakes...... complained to the AG in Florida....No laws broken, as there are NO standards for grading...... beats me....and you can return every purchase for whatever reason within 30 days..... I had a run in with aboncom. They listed 5 consecutive dated Morgans. I was happy with the pics supplied, grade, & price. I payed for the items, But when they arrive, they weren't the one I bid on. I contacted the seller, who said they were the ones pictured. I pointed out that he has 2 other sales posted of the same coins, so how is this possible. They then replied that they use generic pics. I informed them that I was going to return the coins, & I would expect bid price, & all shipping costs returned to me. They said no shipping fees. I contacted ebay & rec. every last cent.

I am a new collector, and I recently got into the "SGS" pitfall on ebay. I ordered some Presidential dollars, MS70's, yeah, well, they came in very well packaged but the coins were stained, smudged, spotty, and just overall ugly. The seller: http://myworld.ebay.com/cwjohnson316/Go figure, he was really, really helpful PRE SALE but did a 180° on me once I raised a couple questions about the condition of the coins. Not to mention the charge of $15+ for shipping when it cost $3.93 to ship. Chalk it up to an educational experience...
