I am looking at this error above the United States. Also there is some discolor on the coin. What do you think?

Looks like exposed zinc layer above "United States" and normal color for a circulated coin.

Yes, split plating on the reverse--not an error. 'Discoloration', as depicted in the images posted, appears to be due to typical circulation and exposure to environmental agents--not uncommon.

Thanks for the answers. I am trying to associate myself to all the common terms. There are a lot.

The combination of surface discoloration and exposed zinc means this coin would be a spender for me.

Above the letters where you see the zinc, is called split plating, in this case a bit extreme as well.

I searched for a long time before taking time to know what I was looking for and at. I found that going through this list helped me a lot, even if I had not seen some of the things that are in the list, it helped me when I did run across it.

From time to time, just go through the list and study, check out the pictures, it will amaze you at how quickly you pick up on things and remember them when you actually see them.
