The Washington side of the quarter has a protrusion adjacent to Washingtons nose. on the eagle side the same kind of protrusion between the beak and upper wing. The quarter is in rough shape around the bulge on the eagle side. The coin is blackened in the low areas but the raised areas have shine. I would say the stamp is decently crisp except for rub issues at the protrusions. the bulges look like they are in the metal because they are not opposing each other. Any ideas? I am completely new to the Coin World. came across it a week ago then remembered I saved the coin when I was 18, I'm 50 now. I am also having trouble loading images so I'm posting as I figure out the photo situation.

I held on to it for because it looked cool with the black and silver and those two bumps. reading threw the forums I noticed a lot of comments on weight. I'll have to purchase a scale. I think this is gonna be a fun hobby.

it could have survived a fire. heat will cause the cladding to expand and separate from the copper core. Seeing how it is all blackened, that stands to reason, it could have dropped onto a hot spot and bubbled up that one location. keep that one in a 2x2 and try to not get too many fingerprints on it.

@lse, first welcome to CCF. Second, thank you for adding pictures. You have a so-called campfire coin that has been damaged by exposure to high heat. Not worth more than face value, but a fun find.

Ise777 please be very care full dont touch this coin. what ever you do DO NOT soak this coin. leave it the way it is. I will ask you a few question later These question will be very pacific . if you can answer these question I believe I might know what you may have. if it is its a mint error worth collecting. I will be back after tomorrow. if you agree I ask you a few question. I will share with you a couple of pictures if you confirm. Let see if this is one of them Silvio I know you know what I am wondering about. I am thinking this is one of them. I cant not see the Breasts good enough yet. Silvio I got this blown up this might be one. that raised metal runs from the eagles eye in his head. To the Left wing rounded edge WHAT EVER YOU DO DO NOT SOAK THIS COIN I got a very good look.
