I purchased an 1869 Indian Head cent recently, and there is a faint bit of what appears to be doubling in the 9 digit of the date. Even so, I don't think that this coin is the 1869/9. I'm not too familiar with the variety though, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Don't have my Snow reference book at hand, but guessing this might be damage rather than a RPD.

Date position looks promising for Snow-3 but need much clearer photos to be sure. Better photos of date (to include bust and denticles) and reverse of full shield and N in ONE. I think I am seeing the obverse die crack from the middle of the ribbon end through the tip of the flag of the 1 in the date... but not sure.

The date looks damage to me, but I'm not well versed in coin of this age.
Where can I get a Snow reference book?

I'm less concerned about possible doubling than I am about the lumps in the fields and on Liberty's neck and the distorted obverse lettering. I'd suspect this cent may have an authenticity problem.

Yes, it is an S-3. Environmental damage, but collectors still pay a premium for this variety and this one has nice details.
