Picked this one a few days ago and it just came in. Pretty neat looking with one or two pre Cuds depending on how you count. It's a new one so just sent images to JC for possible listing. 1943 Lincoln Wheat cent mint error - pre cud(s)

wow, could be 3 pre-cuds here. nice find TB! It appears that it was a chain failure of the die, with the first one on the left then progressing to the right.

It is hard enough to find one small one, you have done well.

Thanks folks! As for three pre Cuds, no, the die jerking east pretty much ends where you see it end in the image. Hard to say what the die looked like in another 500 strikes, but at this point it is what you see. But I'm not buying oddguy's comment that these are hard to find. When I'm actively searching coins in the winter I tend to find a couple every week. Here is another new one I found last night on a 1954-S Lincoln Cent and also just sent to JC. I have two jam packed boxes of Cuds, pre Cuds and some BIE coins that are all unlisted awaiting for time to try and get all those images done up. Here is the smaller of the two boxes. Just not that rare to find these things.

Quote: I tend to find a couple every week. At the risk of continuing to take this thread in a different direction, can you please estimate your finds as a percentage of coins that you are searching? Also, are you looking through unsearched mint rolls or ones from the bank? I'm thinking that your source material might be different from the average CRHer. Awesome coin by the way. Thx for continuing to post your finds.

Thanks Spence for clarification, I find a Wheat cent after about 15 to 20 rolls if I am lucky. Maybe because I go to a regular bank, maybe my particular area, maybe my bad luck? I do not know why but if someone else is finding more than me then I am glad for them.

Thanks for the kind words! And Spence, I search everything: bank rolls, BU rolls, ebay, random bulk coin lots I buy from dealers, etc. In bank rolls the Cuds tend to be on coins from the 1980's, but any year can have one. BU rolls typically turn up minor Cuds that are easily missed on circulated coins as they just jump out at you as they are something "different" on the coin. On ebay most sellers just show the obverse of the coin in the main photos, so you have to actually click the link and then look at the reverse to find most of the Wheat cent pre Cuds, but I do that as I am interested in DDR coins as well. So overall I'd say maybe between it all I look at somewhere around 800 coins per Cud or pre Cud.

JC already listed this one! It is now RCD-1C-1943-113. The 1954-S Cud shown in the thread has been listed as RCD-1C-1954S-07R
