I won't even mention the fact that NGC is calling a die chip an error.....

Any members have any "pull" with NGC? They need to be informed that a die chip is not an error it is a die event. John1

I prefer my coins to be raw. I'll do my own cooking before consumption.

They are enabling the new collectors with these expensive "errors" they keep finding!

And NGC used a "high relief" label for the 2021 Peace which is not true. The US Mint press release for the 2021 Peace dollar specifically said it's not high relief. Think I'll submit a coin to NGC and request a label that says "I don't like special labels" LOL.

Oh no! It has started. I figured it was just going to take some time. Insignificant die chips now being labeled. The grading companies have figured out the profits they can make from the overwhelming amount of wrongly informed newbies falling for ebay "L@@K RARE COINERROR L@@K" auctions. So again they are trying to reshape the hobby focus. First they focused people onto the keys in slabs such that sets became known as junk silver and a few keys. Now every little common and insignificant imperfection will be being touted by even more ebay sellers looking for a sucker. So now they will likely be labeling nonsense such as the (bogus error) floating roof cents etc. And when everyone wastes their money either slabbing or buying this stuff, a few years down the road when trying to sell it they will find how common this type of thing is as well as finding out they were suckers to a company finding new ways to make profits from the hobby. These companies have done some great educational help with he hobby, but by nature of being a business, have molded the hobby into something it never was before in order to make profit. Overall they have been a very bad thing for people who just collect the coins themselves instead of business hyped coin+slab+label collectors. BTW...just to be sure. Hobbies are about FUN. So this post is not slamming people who like coin+slab+label collecting. That hobby can also be very fun. However, this post IS a statement of how coins are not the main focus anymore like they used to be..the companies have inserted themselves between the collectors and the collected items.

This is why I negatively post about both utube and facebook. They hype stupid stuff, and get non collectors all hi about finding a $1,000.000. coin. Then they come in here and argue that it has to be so, causes they saw it on utube. Then we look like the bad people who are just trying to shaft them, or just jealous of what they think they have found.

Well said, Cujohn. My advice to novices is to go to coin shows, get hold of decent price yearbooks, and get to know a few dealers, preferably local ones. The better ones are full of good advice and won't ever rip you off. And there's nothing better when buying a coin than actually seeing it and handling it, cos there's nothing quite like the real thing.

That's pretty ridiculous. I couldn't get them to designate my discovery of a third Barber dime reverse type, with transition varieties in 1899 and 1900, but they'll call a die chip a "mint error." I suppose it gives people something they can find in their change, but I'm not sure how they think promoting stupidity helps the hobby.

In my personal opinion, I prefer books and in-person interaction with experts to gain knowledge for myself and beginners. Of course, there are some good people on youtube, but not too many. I watch those people for mostly entertainment.
