We received this coin among donations to our non-profit. Is it something I should consider submitting for authentication, or does it look like a copy? It weighs 5 grams (my scale shows no decimals) Thanks

condorq, your specimen has the characteristics of a cast coin - the "mushiness" and lack of crisp detail to the devices that does not come from wear on a struck coin and a pebbly texture to the fields. Unfortunately, it is not genuine. But to be sure, bring it to the local coin shop and see what they say.

I have one of these that was made into a tie clip; it looks exactly the same. It was grandpa's and I think they were sold in souvenir shops during the 60s. Check the edge for a seam.

I'm just now noticing the R stamped SW of 1776. Definitely not an indicator of an original coin.

Just a little more information, the New Hampshire copper has a lot of unknowns. This one is more a copy of a fantasy piece, not the correct design. This is believed to be the genuine thing. https://www.PCGS.com/coinfacts/coin...shire-bn/286 The originals were actually cast not struck, so signs of being cast aren't a bad thing on these!

Cast copy.
The cartoonish devices and lettering are the number one giveaway. Color too and there should be a seam on the edge.
Genuine examples are incredibly rare and must be certified.
