Hello So I purchased a lot of 4 token coins & am having difficulty finding any information about them. I was able to find information on this r.r. landon coin, but even that was limited. PCGS #918501 Wondering if I should send it in to be graded? Theres no information on value, so I wouldn't want to send it in if it's not worth the cost to do so.I'm completely out of my league and am looking for any information you all may have to offer.

Hmm good question about slabbing. I don't know the answer though. These seem to be quite rare but I'm not sure on value. Remember it has to be worth something like $100 to make that worth it. Hopefully one of our more knowledgeable token collectors will weigh in.

Ondiwave, Civil War sutler's tokens are very desirable and highly sought after by collectors. I believe that this token is well worth sending to a TPG for grading. I found a record of one like yours graded AU50 by PCGS that was sold by Heritage in May 2023 for $1,170.00. https://coins.ha.com/itm/civil-war-...ption-071515

Ondiwave, you made a major score - congratulations. Out of curiosity, what were the other items in the lot?

You did find a score as Sutler tokens command some strong money as most all are scarce to rare. If you are wanting to know more I would consider contacting Steve Hayden as he is both knowledgeable and someone I would trust in selling as well. https://www.civilwartokens.com/About

For those who don't know, sutlers were merchants who followed armies during the Civil War. They set up "stores" outside of the camps to supply soldiers with items they could not get from the commissary.

Great item that would retail for $400+, IMHO. The money shot is to get it in an NGC holder. Personally, I'd gently swab it in Coin Care to lift any surface residue; this, prior to submitting it, of course.
Over the years, I've owned a few dozen sutler tokens and sold my last one just a few years ago. As much as I admire this genre, seriously collecting them can be quite costly. There are many varieties that command prices amounting to thousands of dollars.

Ondiwave, the only things I would do with that beauty is an acetone soak and a Verdicare treatment. But in my opinion, it is perfectly fine just as it is.

Ok duly noted! I guess I want to make sure that the grime doesn't deteriorate the coin. but I'm still a newbie so maybe thats not an issue.
