going through my inherited collection, I came across this 1913s Barber Quarter-it has not been graded and looks to have been in this cover for decades perhaps. looking for advise if I should send in for grading or sell as is? thanks for your help!

to the CCF, troutshooter! As you know, 1913-S is a key date for Barber quarters. Having it certified will more than pay for itself if/when you sell it. It would help if you could post better pictures, as we can't evaluate it based on the ones you posted. Use the method described by Earle - it is foolproof! You don't necessarily need the ring light - some other source of illumination would suffice. Best choice is natural sunlight. http://goccf.com/t/422658
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Might benefit from a new 2 x 2 for now, anyway, since it looks like there's a little mildew or musty substance on the old holder.

Even in lower grades that can be a $1500 to $3000 coin. Best of luck getting it slabbed.

That is an incredible looking quarter. Getting this one graded should be your first decision.

VG10, value around $3000. Get it graded, don't clean it, handle only by the edges.

Troutshooter, some great advice already, but if you send it in, look for only PCGS, NGC, or ANACS as those are the big and best three tpgs we would recommend... And that is an incredible find! Makes me much!

The most cost-effective service is ANACS. I don't think an astute collection would care if it's PCGS or not, but that's probably just me. I said VG10 because I think at least part of all the letters of Liberty have to be visible and the denticles complete to make F12, but it's close.
