Has anyone else noticed some 1991 pennies have an extra 1 so it looks like "19911"? I found one when I first started collecting but since it wasnt in the Red Book and people online didnt know what it was I tossed it. Keep your eyes peeled for 1991 with extra 1 at the end. Not a doubled date, nothing was doubled, it just had an extra 1 at the end no other extra letters or numbers on coin

I've come across thousands of '91 cents while roll hunting--both Denver and Philly mints. Never came across one with an extra 1. Just did a hasty google search and nothing turns up there either.

I dont have pics of it as it was years ago but ive found 2 of them in rolls so they cant be too rare. The extra 1 at the end wont be raised up like the rest, it will just look like a shadow of a 1 but its visible with the naked eye

Since the doubling is more like a shadow and biased toward the rim from the last digit in the date, this sounds like DDD to me.

I think what you saw was a plating bubble. There could be another coin that had a bubble in the same place maybe not exact but close.

No the 1 was in the same spot on both...The 1 looked exactly like the extra letters in the "1983 extra letters error".

I actually found the 1983 extra letter error at the same time as the 1991 extra 1, but it wasnt in the Red Book and noone knew what it was so I tossed them. I kick myself daily for it

Must be a plating bubble or Die Deterioration issue.

Is the extra letters in the 1983 plate bubbling? It couldnt be pushed down...Just keep an eye out for it on 1991 coins

Food for thought. Thanks, Doug.
