Working through some inherited coins. Came across this one in a cardboard holder which someone identified as a "die break"
Is that accurate ? Is there a better / proper way to describe this cent ? Thank you.

Captain, at first I thought you were going to discuss whatever is going on with "GOD". But as far as the 0 in 1940 goes, it most likely is just a circulation hit. However, I'm no expert.

1940-S Lincoln cents are known for "die breaks." Before you discount the label, take a look at the wheat ears on the reverse and look for a die crack that goes from the rim, through the wheat stalk, and then back to the rim.

Damage to the 0 might have been caused by some sort of vending machine.

There's some black crud between the "G" and the "O". . .difficult to get a sharp close-up with a camera phone, easy to see with a 5x Magnifying glass. . .not worth posting a photo of it.

I thought the distortion of the "4" and the "0" could have come from the mint.
