Unc details cleaned. I see horizontal wipe marks across the cheek and neck. They are subtle but appear to be there. Looks like an unc that was unfortunately mishandled at some point.

'Unc details cleaned' mild enough to not influence the lower valuation too much.
I am thinking some sort of mild friction, because I don't see the same feature on the reverse.

I have no idea what PCGS opinion may be, but my opinion
MS-63, the obverse 'cleaning' holds it back a little.

AU Details: Cleaned.

My eye can't get past what appears to be wear on the lower part of the reverse shield device and the centre feather of the eagle's tail. The right portion of the motto scroll looks suspect to me, as well. The type of hazed lustre exhibited at those points just isn't consistent with what I've seen with light cleanings, weak strikes, or late die states.

On the obverse, bag marks on Liberty's face and neck aren't at all consistent with those exhibited on the the rest of the obverse. Are the horizontal hairlines across Liberty evidence of doctoring, not just cleaning?

MS details - cleaned. Still a beautiful coin. You just don't find many of these old workhorses in high grades.

Great comments so far! Probably unrelated to the grade, I noted that the slab is Gen 4.4 Nov 2005 - Dec 2011. I was also looking closely at it and thought, what the heck is that squiggle in Liberty's upper lip? Is that a strike-through? I started poking around and that feature seems to have started in 1896 and ended in 1901.

MS62. I think the huge images and lighting make it look worse than it is. That said is does show signs of a light cleaning/dipping holding the grade down.

The hairlines could be on the plastic slab. I'm thinking MS-64 on this one.

If indeed those hairlines are on the holder and not the coin then I would give this a grade of MS-64. Either way it is a beauty!
