This is kind of a fun one. As always, split planchets are a favorite of mine, and this one rises up due to an unexpected strike through.

The coin itself is struck through a split planchet, and comes in at a whopping 1.78 grams. But it must have been a pretty heavy strike, as much of the shredded side's texture has been obliterated with just a shade of evidence on Lincoln's face and a couple other small areas.

But just look at the cool shape of that retained struck through bit of debris! I called it the Superman S, but also can look like a lot of things, and honestly I think I see a mermaid.

Neat! My initial thought was a "slug" strikethrough but I do like the other options.

I may kick myself later from missing something obvious, but why, since this is a strike through, and the coin would have been sitting in the REV die at the time, is there a flattened area on the REV side that corresponds to the area on the front that is a strike though? Something like this indicates the coin was not sitting on a flat surface and not the REV die when the front pattern was made?

Earle, The strike through is kind of secondary to the fact the coin is struck on [original wording here was "through" which is of course wrong] a split planchet and weighs only 1.78g. Of course there are weak spots.
