Well I don't really know if that title is quite right, and can you have a dropped Lincoln anyway, but that's pretty much what it is. The reverse was struck through a nearly intact gob of grease that fell out of the obverse die. Or so I think based on what I am seeing. Seems odd that the reverse struck through is pretty much exactly overtop the obverse design with no rotation. Weight is 3.12g. Comments are more than welcome on this one. 1942 Lincoln Wheat cent mint error - struck through Lincoln Edited by tropicalbats 01/03/2024 02:12 am

That's an impressive, dropped filling! This type of dropped filling is much less common, from one side to the other, from what I've read. He looks to have done his job out in the world for a few decades too, with the circulation. Very cool find.

That's quite a spectacular coin TB. I don't have enough knowledge of these types of errors to concur or not with your analysis - but I can see how what you propose could occur.
Very interesting coin.

I have a couple newer pennies with the same type of reverse fade but not as pronounced. 1944 and 1955. Interesting!
