I just started seeing GC listings with a GreatPhoto logo next to them. They have an image similar to PCGS TrueView in addition to their normal slab photos. I couldn't find anything about it on their website or on their submission form. I don't know if this is a new service a consignor can pay for or if they intend to do it for all their coins. Anybody know about it? I contacted them to ask so if they respond, I'll update. Images are 4000x2000 pixels and about 4.5mb. Here's an example, optimized. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Thanks! So it is relatively new. "GreatCollections is planning on adding additional images of toned coins and rarities, which will start to appear in auction listings in the next few weeks." I didn't find anything indicating it's a paid service for sellers to pick, so from this it sounds like they'll do it for "special" coins. Browsing around it looks like most of them have their (Toned) designation or are high MS, but I did see a 1914 25c AU55 that doesn't seem particularly "special."

First I've heard of it. If they hired the head of PCGS Trueview, then I'm skeptical. This guy should be in jail for false advertising.

I'm guessing they only do it for flow thru submissions. You send raw to GC and they farm out to PCGS/NGC/ANACS

The GreatPhoto's I have seen so far seem to be more realistic than Trueview's. I think they pair nicely with Great Collection's slab shots.

I also saw these photos a couple of weeks ago. It looks like they have added this feature since the beginning of 2024. I like it. I usually save photos from the site for my personal archive.

I've sent about 30 coins to GreatCollections to see how they do. Just trying to get a little money back on my coins so I can invest in bullion silver. My auction is March 24th. Seems good so far. Hope toward the end people will bid more.

Quote: This guy should be in jail for false advertising. The name "TrueView" is marketing bunk. However the photos are exactly what was advertised - a beauty shot, showing the coin in the best possible light. Phil did exactly what was promised. And he did a FABULOUS job. Working for GreatCollections, he has different goals and again seems to be delivering exactly what was promised. GC's general photos are shot under specific consistent conditions to present a consistent view of the coin. You might not like how specific coins are presented, because the lighting doesn't show them advantageously. But you can depend on that presentation coin to coin: they are consistent. The GreatPhoto option is designed to present a coin using lighting that is advantageous to that specific coin, to bring out subtle toning or other features. It won't compare precisely to the next coin listing, it's not designed to. It gives the viewer the same advantage they would have in a coin shop lit by fluorescent tubes if they take a coin over to the window to look at it under natural light. Will that give them the best possible view? No, but it's a more realistic view than under the tubes. That's what the GreatPhoto does.

Two days left on GreatCollections auction. I guess everything is going well as can be expected. My best coin I really like is my 1965 MS68 FSB Roosevelt dime. A beautiful dime which was anacs top pop. I know I know some do not like anacs. Anacs has actually been pretty tough on my coins. GreatCollections did some really nice photos of my coins. 30 coins with nice photos. I am hoping to get some money back from years of investment. I like GreatCollections because their auction prices for coins are really fair. Every time I have asked a question they have answered quite fast. I am beginning to like the company. I have sent two shipments to them and one more on the way. Sorry people I have to get some of my years of collecting back with payment, ha ha.

These pictures are problematic. You don't get what you think you're seeing and you kind of have to guess what the coin will actually look like in hand. Not the best way to buy/sell something. Kind of like taking home a girl/guy you met at the proverbial dimly lit party.
