Not the best pics to grade from, especially the reverse. Maybe MS-64?

Looks like maybe an earlier die state. The lettering is thin and crisp, and those steps look really nice.

I'm at MS-63. Nice steps but not full steps.

Thats exactly where I had it; MS64 5FS but that last step is boarder line. Nevertheless, this one didn't make the cut.

i would challenge those calling this no FS to go out and look at some slabbed 5FS coins and see what they pass as FS.

i looked at the very first coin that came up on ebay as MS64FS PCGS. you are going to find tons of them that look like this

Can't wait for the day when full step designations are stratified... FS 1st class, FS 2nd class, etc.

The full steps thing comes up a lot. People here grade super hard according to the literal written criteria. But it's pretty clear that the TPGs don't rigidly follow their own published grading rules for full steps. I would not ever buy a graded slab nickel with "full steps" sight unseen. You have no idea what you will get.

Brandmeister is correct. differences between not just TPG's regarding FS but within each TPG itself. they don't follow their own guidelines regarding it and some of the coins I've seen with the designation, like the one I posted here, is absolutely ridiculous. I would never buy a slabbed FS designation without assessing the coin myself.

Geez, I have read a bunch from panzaldi over the years about full steps. That one is scary! I know contact marks are ok but I did not think ones that obliterated multiple steps were ok. I have rejected quite a few coins with much smaller marks.

captainkurt. it is, especially if you are a novice and expecting a real FS coin thats designated and really not sure how to assess one so you rely on a TPG. regardless of whats on the slab, grade wise or designation wise, you need to know how to assess any coin that you are purchasing and not trust the slab.
