The closest I can find is RPM-006 but it's not that one either. Perhaps undocumented. It sure looks like an RPM to me. There are 39 of them for 1951-D on Variety Vista so it seems likely there are more out there, like yours. http://www.varietyvista.com/02a%20L...%201951D.htm

Thanks kbbpll. I couldn't locate anything close either other than the RPM-006.
I have another like this one and a few other 1951-D's that have some interesting things going on. I'll post them separately.
Thanks

I agree the RPM-006 is the only known rpm that's close. Would be great if it's an unknown RPM. also Could it be a broken/damged MM punch?

Since I'm only seeing "stuff" on the inside of the letter D, I wonder if this wasn't a matter of a damaged punch used to make the mintmark or partially broken post on the die. Just an idea though--I'm interested to see where we net out on this one.

Quote: I wonder if this wasn't a matter of a damaged punch used to make the mintmark or partially broken post on the die. It maybe a broken post/die chip but it may also be a type of progression state of RPM 022. Although mintmark may be a bit too low for 022 VV 1951-D RPM-022

MM is too low for #6.
The MM in your overall obverse pic and the detail shot don't look the same.

I'm only seeing a filled mint mark.
Errers and Varietys.

MM position is wrong for 006. Look at 036 on copper coins. Looks exactly like it but the position is wrong also.

I would have to agree with Spence and the other 'broken post' folks here.

I see no OMM or RPM, just die chips.

I think it is just Die Chip. I do not see fit with D or S.

Die chips don't usually have such shapes and characteristics. The pic shared by Marve65 is more typical of a chip. This is why this coin is controversial, as it does not fit with the typical chip. IMO it is a die gouge in an unfortunate position.

Alright, Ray, I give to the fact the the two lower "things" may be gouges but the upper area definitely looks like a die chip and at the end of the day, I see no evidence of an OMM or RPM and even if there was, no way to prove it with just this example, there would have to be earlier stages to even have a chance.
