I'm new to coin roll hunting and am halfway through my first box of nickels. So far I've found: 1940 -2, 1941 -1, 1941 D -1, 1942 -1, 1946 --1, 1951 -1, 1951 D -1, 1952 -1, 1953 -2, 1953 D -1, 1954 D -1, 1956 D -2, 1957 D - 1, 1958 D -1, 1969 S -1, 1970 S -2, and a 20 Pence (1987). Will update when I finish the box.

Are you also searching for Errors, RPM's, or possible Doubled Dies?

Nice finds and good luck with the rest. Is the 1942 a 35% silver or regular composition?

@ Marve65: Yes I am searching for errors but there are a wide range of years where there are no DD. I had some 60s era thought I thought could be RPMs but with damage/wear to the coins I couldn't confirm them so let them pass. Markers tended to be light gouges or scratches that would hove worn away. I do have 2 1999 P with great DDD. lol

Welcome and what an exciting coin to begin your journey into coin roll hunting! There is a lot to be found with nickels. The 1938-1959 Jeffersons can provide some great excitement, along with silver War Nickels, Buffalo nickels, Liberty nickels, foreign coins, and everything else in between. The slight chance of finding a Henning nickel is always out there as well.

So I finally got around to finishing the box of nickels. There was less in finds in the half: 1941 D -1, 1944 P -1, 1948 -1, 1949 -1, 1954 D -2, 1956 D -1, 1959 D -1, and 1969 S -2.
By the way, the 1942 I had found earlier was a type 1 (not silver).
Only 4 nickels short (1950, 1955, 1943, 1945) of having a nickel for every year over 20 years. Not too bad at all.
