I made another purchase and got this Type 1 SLQ for 5$ but I can't seem to see the date. I think it may be a 16 but that is quite unlikely. So how, if there is even a way a person would be able to tell a 1916 from a 1917?

The 1916 and 1917 quarters can be differentiated by obverse diagnostics.
