Poll Question
I'm curious what folks are interested in, especially the new members. Write-in if I missed anything. Personally I have collected Lincoln Wheat cent Die Varities for the last few decades. My main collecting method has always been by searching BU rolls, but that has become more difficult and expensive recently. For the new folks, you probably told your story in an introductory post, but I'd like to hear it again here in a brief summary. I hit "enter" and it launched the poll too soon, before I finished! Also, I can't seem to find a place to allow multiple choices, so I guess all you can choose is your most favorite type of Error/Variety coin that you are currently collecting. Should still be good info.

I collect predominantly nickels, although I do have a few Mercury dimes. Mostly I aim for doubled dies, including minor doubled dies. I also enjoy the 1941 Large-S variety because of the way it captures a particular moment in American history. I hunt ebay for the pre-2003 doubled dies, and I CRH $20 every week for the 2004+ WDDR nickels. For error coins, I do have a small cache of clipped Jefferson nickels that I purchased, as well as some Buffalo nickel die clashes. Recently I have started a small collection of 1945-S and 1942-S inverted mint mark Mercury dimes from ebay. I find searching for them to be an enjoyable challenge.

I collect everything. Maybe too much. I hear you about unc rolls. They got too expensive starting about 5 years ago.

Cuds, Die cracks, Clashed dies, Off-metal errors should be options too, these are my favorites to collect.

Quote: Also, I can't seem to find a place to allow multiple choices, so I guess all you can choose is your most favorite type of Error/Variety coin that you are currently collecting. This forum's poll feature does not allow for multiple voting. Sorry. Errors and varieties are not a main interest of mine. Of the listed categories, what I would have most of would be "off-centre", since I collect ancient and mediaeval coins for which "off-centre" is actually normal and undesirable, and perfectly centred coins are the rare exceptions. However, for actual modern error coins, I have more clips than other types, so that's how I voted. My favourite "Error/variety" coins, however, are the ones where the Mint actually makes a spelling error in the coin's design and has to issue new coins with the corrected spelling - something the US Mint has so far seemed to avoid, but which can be found on some other countries' coinages. The Philippines, Brazil and Chile are noteworthy examples - the last two being particularly embarrassing, as they actually managed to mis-spell the name of their own country. BBASIL and CHIIE.

the bigger and uglier the error, the more I like it & tend to hold on to, no matter what the coin is.
