Hello all,

I am curious if there is any recognized premium on (non key, non better date) Mercury dimes by age?

Morgan, peace, and franklins have largely dried up in Rome. I find some, but less, Kennedy halves, and some, but less walkers. Dimes however have been more plentiful. They're sold by weight and not FV. The majority I find - maybe 70/30 - are 1940s/pre 1940s.

I buy everything but put the pre 1940 mercs aside; for no other reason that I prefer to. I like the slick 1920 that probably came here in a pocket vs the low MS 1942 that came as someone's example of the coin; is there any additional interest in older mercs in the u.s.?

I know from a stacking perspective they are less silver from ciculation. And I am almost certain everything I buy has been searched because in 300+ mercs I've found one misaligned die and a 1928 d... Hardly numismatic gold.

Thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

R.

I thought there would be at least a single interest, but I suppose no response answers my question...

I have a small collection of Mercury dimes pulled from my stacking silver. There is a small premium on the common dates of 1931 and earlier.

My LCS offers no premium on common Mercury dimes. Nor will they offer more than melt on any Roosevelts.

It seems like some years are a bit more valuable in circulated states. Of course, the real payoff would be RPM, doubled dies, and other mint oddities.

My LCS allows me to search through his 90% when I want. He'll give me a call when he gets more in and I'll get crack at it. I've bought quite a bit over the last four years. I've found some Barbers in there and an XF 1856 Seated Liberty half dollar. I was shocked it was in there and I asked him about it but he said it's just 90% to him. Most of his business is bullion.
