What what!!! Not only do I have a 1943 steel penny but also 1943D AND 1943! Nothing super special I know but I've always wanted one (I would need to do 3 posts wouldn't I?) I picked one that looked the best.

Cool. The images seem to suggest that the coin was been plated some time ago. Not saying it is for sure, just sharing an observation.

Check the edge, dull means original and if it is shiny, it has been re-plated.
