I thought this would be interesting seeing what you guys would want to buy. If you had $1,000 to spend on 1 (one) coin which one would you buy and why?

I'd get a St. Gaudens Double Eagle because I really really want one. But at over $1000 a pop, getting one is not really an option for me.

Still kicking myself because last year I had a chance of buying a NCG MS64 1923 one for $1300... but didn't have the money :(

I would buy my avatar, a 1971 No S Proof nickel. Sound crazy? Yeah I know but I would if I just had the right coin and 1,000.00 to blow. Why, Is somebody giving away a thousand bucks?

I'd buy the heaviest gold coin I could find. The year or denomination doesn't matter, just as long as it was gold.

Canada 1948 50 cent, best I could get for USD 1000, probably MS 63/64
or
1880 Newfoundland $2 gold, best I could get for the money. Issue only 2500, many melted.

Hmmm...that's a toughie, I'd never spend that on one coin anymore.
I'd rather take that $1K to a few shows and cherrypick. I'm sure I could get $5K-10K of coins in return.

yes Kurt, but the question does NOT give you that option.
it clearly says ONE coin. I think there is some underlying research here by cownas22.
perhaps he received a $1000 tax refund or a birthday gift from his Grama. lololo
Rest in Peace

Can we rephrase the question? If you didn't have $1000.00 to spare, would you say "Don't care" and order yourself a Ultra High Relief gold eagle on your birthday anyway? Or am I alone in this?
