This one looked weird enough. Is it a Dryer Coin or planchet error. It is either worn with tapered edges and still has a rim or it was an under-sized planchet (4.68g) and received light strike because of it. Probably the first, but worth asking, just in case. Thanks.

to the CCF, Paladere! It looks like your coin spent some time in a parking lot or street.

It looks very heavily worn but doesn't resemble a Dryer Coin.

Please post a straight-on, close in pic (or two) of the rim. Often, dyer coins show rather strong rim issues, especially when viewed end-on (not vertical). Thanks.

That's a weak strike, not a Dryer Coin. Bifacial and symmetrical weakness, lack of rim design, original proto rim still retained. A well worn weak strike, no doubt, but not a Dryer Coin or a grease strike. It's possible the weight of the coin has a relationship to the weak strike, such as being caused by a thin planchet.

I like that theory. Would a proto rimmed blank fit in the collar/chamber? John1

Quote: an under-sized planchet (4.68g) Tolerance at .19 grams (+,-) so highly underweight. Any chance of getting a picture of the edge compare to a normal weight nickel?

I agree with HGK here - Nice weak strike nickel! Quote: Would a proto rimmed blank fit in the collar/chamber? Yes it would - a just like a normal planchet would fit into the collar.
