Need some help verifying a coin. I think I might have found something very rare. Has anyone heard of a 1982 D copper large date Lincoln Cent having the mint mark above the date. About 2mm above the 2 in 1982. If this is legit this would be considered a very rare cion correct? I tried this once already and somebody blocked my thread. I'm new to this. So I'll try again. I was looking for info before I posted pics to waste anyone's time

I see what you're referring to but unfortunately, your picture is not clear/detailed. To my knowledge, there are no MM's that are punched above the date. Most likely it is some sort of damage.

Looking at the coin with normal, I, it does not show. I only noticed it on the picture when I uploaded it to coin app and added it to my collection. I'll try to get a better image.

@army, first welcome to CCF. Second, I got your note to the mods. I'm sorry that your first experience here was a little bit rough, but since it is almost impossible for us to help folks without seeing what they are seeing, we will generally lock threads without pictures. Thx for sticking with us though and I'm hoping that you will get the information that you need here.

To CCF! Looks normal to me. Just seeing staining from environmental damage.
Errers and Varietys.

It doesn't look like a stain to me, but it didn't happen at the mint. It looks like somebody actually removed the mint mark from a Denver mint penny somehow and stuck it on this one.

@army to the CCF Your initial thread was locked because we need photos to offer any help at all. Your image shows what appears to be a rightward tilted letter D in the location you described; above the 2 in the date. There is zero possibility this is a Denver mint mark. It is Pareidolia

As stated, this is an odd coincident image on a badly disturbed surface. It is not a D mintmark, and there is no logical explanation as to why it might be genuine.

Just for the heck of it, a clearer closeup would be needed.

The surface of the entire coin has been disturbed somehow

Looks to me like a convincingly D-shaped plating bubble that has been partially deflated. Bizarre that it looks so correct in size and shape though.
