Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this penny I recently found. I am fairly new to this. When I came across this penny I didn't know what to make of it because I had never seen a gold-collared penny and when I looked a little closer It seemed that this may be an error on the right of the obverse side. I circled it in one photo. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time
Andria

Coin appears to be plated or toned—but did not leave the Mint that color. The other issue may be a mild Rim Fin. Others will weigh in.

@and, first welcome to CCF. Second, as you can see, I have split this part of your thread off into a separate thread. In this way, we can get some good answers to your questions.

That might be a rim Cud that you have here. Have you looked at the cuds-on-coins website yet?

To CCF! Your coin has been gold plated. That's PMD. It didn't leave the mint like that. However, that area in question you circled is a Rim Cud.

Modest rim Cud, minor misaligned die, and possible plating. An accurate weight to two decimal places would tells more about the plating matter.

It is a plated coin - you can see where it has wore off from the rim exposing the cent's true copper color.
