I have something like that but have been unable to get any information on it. I'm considering submitting it to Heritage Auctions through their free appraisal service to see what they say...maybe.

never seen anything like that before - is it possible that the laser that frosts the die went 'off course' and etched the field?

Maybe it's the photo but the whole thing looks off to me. As MD said, need full photos of both sides.

Hello Gilly, You asked, " How did you arrive at this conclusion by this picture and information? " There were only 5-Five American Silver Eagles made in 2011 ( the 25th anniversary ) 1-Bullion strike 2-2011-W Burnished 3-2011-S Burnished 4-2011-W Proof 5-2011-P Reverse Proof The ONLY ASE Proof made that year was/is the 2011-West Point minted Proof, .....

The coin you posted is the West Point Mint Marked Proof version The coin posted, by both of our observations, is a proof 2011W. Which was the only proof made in 2011. So I fail to see how you determined that it's from the 25th anniversary set and not sold individually in the clamshell holder, which has a much higher production. (About 1 million produced in 2011. If I understand what the Mint does with reporting production, 1/10th of production, about 100k, went into the 25th anniversary set)

Gilly, I stated. " " The coin you posted is the West Point Mint Marked Proof version . " Did I say it was from the Set only ? I was only stating the Types of Versions that were Available, .... The OP's topic is getting shadowed....

The confusion was created by the first sentence, not the second paragraph. It's fine, I didn't understand what you were saying. Dude hasn't made one comment since he posted anyways
