Gambling is an addiction I can't always break when it comes to spending a little "mad money" on coins with terrible photos. Win some, lose some, but it's fun regardless.

Price paid: $19

Seller photos. The only thing I've done is to crop them down a bit. Grade away!

...well, okay, so I went ahead and did a single Photoshop cleanup and rebalancing pass on the seller's photos, because it was driving me nuts, so here's the photos after. Of course, I have no idea what this thing will actually look like in hand, but gambling is gambling...

AU-58 at the least, but I don't see any wear to hold it back from unc.

Its either a really really soft strike or wear on the breasts and the middle. Not worth $19 either way. This would be a bullion coin at my dealer. I would say XF 45 based on the wear. If its such a soft strike I would pass.

Xf really? I see luster & quite a bit... Easy mid to high au or better. Will wait for in-hand pics. I would have taken a chance at $19
I've been collecting for a couple years... Favorite Coin's are Standing Liberty quarters, Working on my type set | Coffee, Corvettes, Coins & the CCF what could be better?

I'm leaning towards central strike weakness rather than wear. I'd say AU-58 conservatively, and possibly low MS.

Melt value is $11, this coin is probably too nice to throw in the silver stack. I think $19 is a fair deal, and I come out ahead if it ends up being Uncirculated. It's not a rare coin, or a rare date, but I've always got room for a few nicer AU/Unc Walkers in the Dansco.

If it ends up being an absolute junker, worst case scenario I lose around $10. I think I can live with those odds.

ps. hfjacinto, if your store is selling common date slider AU Walkers for $19, shoot me an inventory list...I've got quite a few Dansco coins I'd love to upgrade at that price.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I honestly look at the prices you guys pay for stuff on ebay and it blows my mind. I pick up locally so much cheaper. If this coin was offered to me at $19, I would pass.

HFJacinto, I was at my local coin shop last Saturday and my thought after looking at prices was the exact opposite. They are good guys, however, and have always treated me well.

I am with the OP, bad photos are fun. I picked up an uncirculated 1831 bust half for $70.99 a few months ago. It just takes experience from studying all kinds of lighting, background colors, recognizing luster, all while looking past a blurry lens. With enough knowledge you can buy anything with the utmost confidence.

I had the opposite with blurry photos, I purchased an IHC that was very well priced, got it home and it had corrosion, shipped it right back. So unless the photos are clear, I won't buy. Another reason I rarely buy on ebay.
