Yep...another Proof 3CN! This coin looks great in hand especially for a PF64. It has nice mirrors and a light cameo on the reverse.

In an older version of my description above I noted no noticeable issues. Well...I guess I lied...I did some photos under completely different lighting conditions. Do I like what I see? No. Do I still love the coin? Absolutely!

Fortunately the hairlines are very difficult to see unless you're in the right lighting conditions and some really require magnification to make them noticeable. The dealer who I know very well also must have completely missed them because he commented that he wasn't sure why it wasn't in a (PCGS) PF65 holder. Well, now we know why. Perhaps I need to photograph all of my coins in this way to really see what's going on.

Photos showing beautiful Proof surfaces and nice device detail

Photos concentrating purely on surface detail; note that if the lighting is ever so slightly varied all new details start to pop!

That's a beautiful piece Prethen. I much prefer the 3-cent nickel over the silver trime. Maybe they'll bring it back someday?

Coin Values Online, which is usually higher than others but not always, lists it for $1000.

The PCGS website lists a CAM for $700 and a DCAM for $1500, and Numismedia, the official NGC price guide, lists it for $660.

This is a good example of what is so great(& terrible) about digital photography. With the right lighting angle something that is either not visible, or very insignificant, will show up as a major flaw.

I hope that those aspiring numismatic photographers and Proof coin buyers can learn something by this. Again, I don't regret buying the coin. But, it took me by quite surprise that those hairlines were that obvious when tilted just right. And, you can see that if the light doesn't hit the surface at just the right angle, you really don't see anything there!

It's an awesome coin even with the slight hairlines. I have yet to photograph a perfect coin.
