I bought this today along with some 90%. It weighs 1.90 grams; the diameter is right. Why would anyone fake a non-key date (this date is obviously illegible) Mercury dime? The seller also had some obviously fake Seated Liberty coinage he was convinced was real - he also though this merc was real. Thoughts would be appreciated! R. Hard to say why @roma. Could it be a contemporary counterfeit?

Looks like an old beat-up dime to me.

@spence...possibly, but even circa 1916-1945? I know a dime was worth a lot more but there has to be some material costs in making a fake dime vs a dollar? Or gold coin, but I suppose a dime is a lot harder to detect and unlikely to be heavily scrutinized... Curious what others think.

Maybe Francis LeRoy Henning had a side-gig?

With the photos posted, I'm seeing what appears to be post-strike damage on a legit Mercury dime.

@keith...the slickest culled Barber dime I have weighs 2.21 and has much less detail than this coin at 1.90...

Perhaps some of the surface metal has been eaten away by acid?

looks real to me in these images - possible this one was in an acidic environment for a while..

The it is real... By acidic environment, I have to imagine ... In actual acid.
Why/how 1.90 grams?

Coin is what would be a typical sewer find . When I had my shop ,the city guys would bring Stuff like this in quite a bit . It is underweight and corroded due to leaching . XRF would confirm it is silver. NOT a counterfeit. Grades as SF01. .sewer find 1.LOL
