Hi Guys. I am fascinated with the Morgan dollar, its history, its vintage years, their VAMs, their design. I want to start picking some up but there is just so much info and variations I'm having a hard time finding places to shop for them. Coin shows are kind of out for me due to health problems and most of the coins I see that seem worthwhile are from E-Bay, but Ive been warned about buying from it. Still some of the sellers appear reputable. Established out fits like Bullion sellers have Morgans but they seem pricey. All I'm looking for is a fair deal on coins that have some value more then their melt. Interesting coins. Coins that will at least hold historic value in the future. Stacking bullion is easy compared to coin collecting. For someone new Morgan silver dollars alone have a ton of stuff to learn about let alone all the other American stuff, and let alone the rest of the world. Its all so dang fascinating. Any input or info on Morgans would be appreciated. Thank you.

Nothing wrong with buying from ebay. Just have to be careful of who is selling. I buy most of my coins from ebay. Never had a problem

Agree with Keith67. Consider established ebay sellers who have excellent feedback, offer returns, and post large and sharp photos of the actual coin you'll receive. For anything high end (very high end...), purchase from a reputable coin shop where you can examine the piece in-hand. I understand the in-hand option may not be immediately workable.

I also like ebay for mostly my half dollar collection, for morgans my best deals are gun shows and local on line auctions. Around here we have two local online auctions that will sometimes auction off a whole coin collection with local pick up. I also watch their estate auctions that will have a few coins, right now I am watching one that has a 1900 and 1921 morgan up for bid

Agree with above, ebay can offer good pricing but tread carefully with sellers. Actually reading the feedback can prove invaluable - consistent feedback including "as pictured, well packaged" is important. Also suggest Great Collections as a source for slabbed. They do flip a lot of Morgan's every week and, depending on the buy volume that Sunday, you can seriously score some good price points if you are patient.

Thanks for all the replys Fellas. Say if you, and if I can ask another question, had to choose which Morgans you wanted vis a vis value and price. Personal interest above all. What coin year and mint would you experienced guys choose ?
Say a price ceiling of $500 ? I know this is a general question with a lot of variables but I can't help but wonder what coins experienced Morgan collectors admire most that are within reach of a working or retired guy ? And why ?
Again thanks for the replys.

I was going to send you a private email, but you're blocked. Have you tried coast to coast coins?

Quote: I was going to send you a private email, but you're blocked. Have you tried coast to coast coins? No but I will. I bought my first on ebay. A 1878 S that interested me. I don't think I got hurt to bad on it. Its an established seller and the price was right. Its in a slab with a "BU" condition meaning its not graded but it looks decent, tho maybe cleaned. I have wanted an 1878 anyway so I don't care. I'm checking out Coast to Coast now. They have some wonderful coins. A 1893S thats a beauty but way outside my price range. Still its a wonderful and a man can dream. Actually they have a slew of interesting coinage, if pricey. Still, cool to drool over. Wow! They have some fabulous Morgans. Actually this seller has some interesting coins within my price range. A return postage guarantee so thats hard to argue with. https://www.ebay.com/str/libertycoi...l?_sacat=253Cant find where to uncheck Email and PM preferences. don't see it in my profile. Kind of excited to get an 1878S. I can just imagine the country as it was born into.
