*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***1943 steel penny. I have weighed, reweighed and recalibrated and it continues to show 2.88g. Thoughts?

2.70 grams is the "norm", so I'd say yours is just a bit heavy but still within Mint tolerance. If the reverse looks as good as the obverse than I'd say you have a very nice hole filler.

Can't really tell from the picture but if the cent was reprocessed/replated it may weigh a bit heavy. The US Mint Tolerance for steel cents are around 2.56g to 2.82g.

Take a photo of the edge, which will tell you if it has been replated. This would account for the slight extra weight.

Yes, an end-on, close-in pic of the rim could tell us much.

Thanks everyone! Sorry for the delay the shine made it tough to photo well.

looks plated - an edge image will tell the truth here - if shiny like the reverse then plated, if it looks dull like raw steel then not plated.
