Not an expert on grading, but I'll guess MS-63.

Love the tone on the reverse.
From the PCGS "TrueView" photo, I would give it an MS64...

oh how they love that type of toning at the TPG's typically they bump the coin for that. I think that cheek would hold it to MS63 and I'm betting they would bump it to MS64

I can't zoom in close enough to see cotton "balls" looks like they might show slight signs of wear...but I'm going with 63+, now I'm wondering if they gave it a PL designation.

Obverse looks proof-like but the reverse probably doesn't meet P-L criteria. Toning looks natural and attractive overall. The stains on the eagle's breast hurt eye appeal slightly. MS-64 seems fair.

obv looks PL but the reverse doesn't which could be lighting/glare or even the larger amount of toning. this is one you need to see in hand to determine that.

Hmm. For some reason, unlike others here, I don't see any "Proof-Like' on this coin's obverse. Just another PCGS well-prepared photo..

This one sold quickly so "unfortunately" I can't offer any in-hand pics. The best I can do are a couple from the original seller's listing:

1878-S-Morgan-Silver-Dollar---You-Vs.-PCGS
1878-S-Morgan-Silver-Dollar---You-Vs.-PCGS

And here are the results:

Looks like echidna is the winner, with an honorable mention going to panzaldi for predicting the likely toning bump. Thanks as always everyone, I'll post another later if anyone is interested. Take care all.

I hate TV photos. after years of grading coins using these, my personal experience says 'you cant use these to accurately grade a coin' normally they hide a lot of flaws. in this case it enhanced the marks on the cheek skewing everyone's grade here. Look at the reverse photos. The in hand photos do show an decent MS65 coin. grade is accurate.

moral of the story: dont count on TV to accurately grade a coin.

The True View photo even got a few to believe it was "Proof Like"..
