I am very much looking forward to next year's 250th Anniversary coin-collecting gauntlet. But I am most looking forward to a likely 40th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set. I'm sure that we all have our wish list of what a set would look like. Would love to see people come up with their ideas.
The top of my wish list would be an Ultra High Relief set in the formats of proof, reverse proof, and burnished. Knowing that the mint hasn't produced ultra high relief in silver, it is not likely on their radar.
In such a case, I would love a mint mark set from each of the four active mints. Ideally, the coins would be totally unique to the set and include a combo of the known special finishes: reverse proof, enhanced uncirculated, enhanced reverse proof, and maybe a new variation like an enhanced burnished.
For better or worse, we can probably expect some type of 40th Anniversary and 250th anniversary privy options. But I am hoping this isn't the simple answer to an actual 40th Anniversary set.

I like your idea of a set with different finishes but I have a feeling we'll be getting some 250th & 40th anniversary privy marked ASE's next year instead

I would love something similar to the 25th anniversary set from 2011 with different finishes and MMs. But I too have the feeling that we'll instead get privy stuff given the way things are going these days.

Love the thoughts. I also had the idea about either a 250th or 40th anniversary set as described, if the mint decided to have Denver make the ASE. But they haven't in 39 years. Hope springs eternal. Quote: enhanced uncirculated, enhanced reverse proof, and maybe a new variation like an enhanced burnished. Now IDK the authors knowledge of ASE finishes, but burnished is slang for (capital U) Uncirculated finish, so that's double speak. One finish the Mint could consider is called tailored finish, the RCM has used it at least once on the SML, I have one and I really love it. Let me try to get a picture on this post. (Got it, it'll be on the bottom). There are differently other finishes they could consider, with the added ability of the laser engraving they are starting to use. The RCM has managed to do the ultra high relief, possibly they can do that. Although I think the maple leaf lends itself better to sound the UHR. The mint could still to a normal high relief of the ASE,I feel. Quote: Mike Mezak over at CSN has a jump start on the U.S. Mint I guess that's how we ended up with the 10th anniversary set in 1995 as well. Ever since then, the Mint send to be capable of calculating correct anniversary years. Now that privy marks are the hottest thing,I expected magic Mike to go full bandwagon. Note the W mint mark on the SML is for the Winnipeg mint. Odd coincidence.

I think I see what you mean on double speak but my usage of the language just intends to denote business strike uncirculated eagles from the burnished blanks of the West Point struck uncirculated.
I LOVE that Canadian maple finish—— almost looks like an acid etched meteor specimen.

@VetStudent: I would settle for a 2 coin 40th Anniversary American Silver Eagle Set with an Enhanced Reverse Proof from San Francisco and a Reverse Proof from West Point. ( Instead of the Reverse Proof Morgan & Peace 2 Coin Set ). . .Available via subscription. . .it would give ASE collectors who missed out on the 2019 Enhanced Rev Proofs a chance to score a beautiful rendering of an ASE. For now, I'll assume the greedy [insert your favorite epithet here] overlords at the USM will do something that requires ASE collectors to pony up megabucks with a multi-coin set involving Gold, Platinum, and Palladium in order to get a Special Edition Silver Proof ASE. . .and 250 sets will have serial numbered COA's signed by whoever is running things. . .not that I've grown cynical about our USM. Mint has done some nice high relief work on the Silver Medals side of things; not familiar with "ultra high relief."

Quote: the language just intends to denote business strike uncirculated eagles from the burnished blanks of the West Point struck uncirculated. The 3 (except for the 2009-2010 era and since 2006) are: Bullion ( no mint mark, sold only to authorized purchasers, in those green monster boxes) Uncirculated (mint marked, leave the mint encapsulated and sold to the public. Generally the same finish as bullion, but are struck a little better (debatable) and definitely handled better than bullion. None made 2009-2010 Proof same as above but the mirrored finish and satin elements. None made 2009.

Quote: Mint has done some nice high relief work on the Silver Medals side of things; not familiar with "ultra high relief." "Modern Technology Through 21st century technology and the vision of Director Ed Moy, original Saint-Gaudens coin plasters were digitally mapped by the United States Mint. Using the digital design and die-making process, the Saint-Gaudens sculpture—in ultra high relief—has been updated to reflect the year 2009, an additional four stars to represent the current 50 states, and the inscription "In God We Trust," which was not on the 1907 version. Additionally, a small border was added for a more consistent edge. The 2009 coin will be made of 24-karat gold. Pure 24-karat gold is much more malleable than 22-karat or 90% gold coins, making it better material for striking the ultra high relief." The RCM has made several UHR SMLs and another think the mint could think about is the Super Incuse specimen, I did buy one of those as well, that was done in 2023 I believe.

Thanks for posting that "explainer", Gilly. Any metallurgical reasons they couldn't do the same in silver for an ASE ?

Quote:Any metallurgical reasons they couldn't do the same in silver for an ASE ? I would guess not. The RCM seems to be able to figure it out (eh). Unless the ASE design is more challenging, which it may just be. Additional thought (again) is....hold on to your hat, the ASE design done in gold. I know, that's what gold eagles are for. But no, do them in gold including the fractional sizes, just for the 250th. Oooo, another idea, do that in 11 years, 2036, further 50th anniversary! Oh, oh crap! And do the gold eagle design in silver, OMG!

@Morgan's Dad: I respectfully disagree re: a 1995-W like set. If the Mint does that, run-of-the-mill ASE collectors will be shut out due to the price point. But this thread is about fantasies so I'll add here my fantasy is the Mint will commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the ASE with something affordable to the average Joe.
