The issue of "what do I do with the 1943 album slots" is a never-ending issue for those of us who like the wood-grain cents. No matter what goes in the 1943 slots, they will look weird. BU coins don't fit. Generic place-holders don't fit. Reprocessed cents in a woody album ought to be a criminal offense. And leaving the spaces blank seems odd, too. Here is just one idea. It's just my 2 steel cents' worth. Most of the circulated steel cents are not pretty. Some of them, however, can have decent circulation cameos. For whatever reason, a few of the steel cents develop a somewhat reflective black surface. When that is combined with a circulation cameo, they at least are interesting. And in the context of those slots in a woody collection, interesting seems better than yeccch. Here's an example of the black cameo appearance. This is a pretty rough coin, but it will give the general idea. With some diligent searching, fairly nice examples can be found, even in dealers' junk boxes. Nearly complete circulation cameos exist, but are not common.

Circulation cameos are a good option. (Naturally) toned '43s can work as well--pretty much up to the individual collector.

I agree, that is a nice idea, a cool circulation cameo coin - gives it character.

Nice. Here's one I found recently while searching a bag of wheats.

You could always widen the hole and use a nice '43 War Nickel with dramatic mixing issues.

Pretty much anything in the 1943 slots of a woody collection is going to look like three kittens in a room full of Collies.

Great idea fortcollins. Hopefully this will help your fellow cent woody collectors. I did a similar things back when I was CRH nickels. I set aside all the circulation blackened coins with cameo and eventually decided to try and fill a Dansco album with them. I made it quite a ways before I stopped CRH.
