Hi All. I'm looking for suggestions on what to do with my coin collection from when I was a kid. Mostly old, worn Good examples of wheat Lincolns, handful of Indian cents, Buffalo nickels, a complete Whitman book of 38-64 Jeffersons. Some miscellaneous stuff I thought was cool when I was 11. Nothing is worth much money. I don't need it sitting in the closet anymore. Would any young people be interested? How would I find them. Even thought of just putting some stuff in circulation so somebody might think it's cool and find it interesting.

Any ideas?

Not sure if there are any coin shows around your area but if there is,
you could donate your collection to them.
They usually have a kids table that they give free coins to young numismtics.

Hi Chipg, what a great offer. One suggestion would be to contact a local coin club and offer he coins as "giveaways" to young collectors and members. I am a big proponent of letting them back into circulation. This can begin a process of people looking more carefully at their change, learning some history and possible becoming a collector.

I would also suggest that you check your coins again, you never know, you may have some "gems" after all.

Both good suggestions. Yeah I've doubled checked it for gems :) Funny what I bought for $.15 sixty years ago! My local, Albuquerque club seems to have some issues with their website. I'll keep trying. Thank you!

To CCF! I agree with above. You can also sell your collection online, or go to you local coin shop, if there's one in your area. It's up to you though.

Some of my best finds of RPMs and DDs have come from old albums bought off of ebay. So even if your coins are worn you might want to check for those gems (which is what I believe Freespeech57 was referring to.)
I too like to put them back into circulation...easy to feed a few LWC into the self-scan register at Target or Walmart...just won't take 43s

Be sure to check the reverse (back) of the 1939 for a DDR (double die reverse).

Chip

I started collecting coins from my dad's pocket change when I was 10 years old in 1955 He was so great coming home with many cents, nickels, and dimes every day.

I take coins to local coin shows and hand them out to young collectors and love their responses. Then I give the rest to the coin club to distribute.

Regarding the gems I put my cents from the 1930's and earlier into large Maxwell House Coffee cans and never found time to actually check them for about 50 years. Yup, I had a 1922 No D Lincoln in there.
