I have found Mercury dimes, Kennedy halves, roosy dimes, quarters, and the War Nickels in circulation. I used to run a cash register and would always buy those from my till at face value.

I still find quite a few wae nickels roll searching(abut 1 every 25 rolls maybe?just a gut feeling) and have found 2 siler quarters and a silver Mercury dime in change. I quit searching halves because after30 rolls, nothing.

Well I just open the roll and scan the edges because I have to open the roll anyway to give change out. so I just multitask.

when I don't see tht copper two-tone color I take it out and look at it and check the date.

Well, when I worked at a bank the rolls were transparent so it was a problem... Almost all of em were Canadian...

I don't understand your logic in giving up roll searching halves. By your own admission, you'll search 25 rolls (1000 coins) to find 1 puny War Nickel, yet give up searching halves after only 30 rolls (600 coins) and not finding any silver. You just happened to get 30 skunk rolls! Are you going to quit searching nickel rolls the next time you buy 30 rolls and don't wind that puny War Nickel? I've been roll searching halves for almost 4 months now. In that time I've stumbled upon some nice little stashes people have turned in to their banks, the most noteworthy was my last nice find. A teller at a bank I stopped at said that another teller who was out to lunch had some halves and told me to come back in 20 minutes. After searching other banks in the area and deciding to head home I remembered that I was supposed to stop back by that bank. She had 19 rolls of half dollars wrapped in 2 different styles of wrappers (10 of one and 9 of the other). The 9 produced nothing, the other 10 rolls were littered with silver. I got (60)of the 40%, (17)1964's and (8) Franklin halves.
So overall in the last 4 months I've found over 15 rolls of 40%, 2 rolls of 90% and 9 Franklins.
So, I don't think your decision not to search half dollars anymore will bother us that do....more for us!

I don't give up on nickels because I am trying to complete a set and I still find a lot of good quality older coins. The War Nickels as silver finds are the bonus, not the goal. In searching halves ,silver was the goal and along with the poor results, it is next to impossible to find rolls of halves in any quantity around here. I still pick up rolls when I can(a couple of rolls every couple of months) but they are not a main focus.
