I spend about 200 bux on this n that.

My nickels seem to have benefited the most.

One dealer had a 'bargain box' with a nickel folder
inside for 5 bux. I noticed it had coins in it, so
I took a closer look. Without making a big deal about
it, I glanced to see if they were really worth a whole
5 bux. It didn't take long to see the 3 unc War Nickels.
I snapped it shut and made the deal. Same vendor had a
bucket of "junk" Washington quarters for 3 bux each.

A quick look revealed that anything flashy was a 1964...
the rest were heavily worn. I didn't think there'd be
anything worth saving in there, but before giving up,
I found a gorgeous 1954-D! I assume that someone
mistook it for a 1964 when sorting the coins, because
his 54-Ds in 2x2s were going for 8 bux in the same
condition. Anyway, I snapped that up for 3 bux.

I got the nickel folder home to see just how good I
made out on my 5 bux... 3 sweet War Nickels! 2 circ
War Nickels. Then there were about 20 others. 15 or
so unc, only about 5 that were circulated. All the
uncs have an unbelievable blue tone to boot.
All between 40 and 62...

I didn't fill many empty holes in my Jefferson Dansco,
but the first few pages are a whole lot prettier now!

All my Danscos got a little better, but the Jeffs
really got some unexpected flash, and on the cheap too.

ratio411 ... interesting ... sounds like we were at the same show ... how did I miss that Jefferson book.
Congrats on the good finds.

I did not count them, I did pick up about 15 Unc Jefferson for my Dansco. Also a 1997 ASE to finish that Dansco. Couple early Lincoln's for upgrades, of course some State Quarters to finish that forth set I was working on. And a few other coins ..

I think the show was pretty good, I would go again.

Yeah, that is a pretty good little show. Too bad it is only once a year.

Pace coins had the nickels and the bucket of Washingtons. He is a newbie
dealer. I think he borrowed money from his mom to start up. He gets his
coins from advertising on Craigslist. I tried to sell his some stuff when
he first started out last year, but it bothered me he didn't know his stuff
and was obvious about trying to low-ball. Not just average dealer low-ball
either, but more like insulting low-ball. Made even more insulting by him
being so obviously not a coin guy.

I ended up with about 12 Roosies, 12 unc Washingtons (pre-64), 5 proof sets,
2 unc sets, some blue and brown Ikes, and a whole bunch of Jeffersons.

I picked up a full luster 38-s for 15 bux. More than I like to spend on a nickel,
but this thing was so flashy I couldn't let it go. Also got an untoned 44-s with
full steps for 15 bux. I think the most I spent on any one coin was 15 bux.

I got the blue Ikes for 4 each, and the browns for 5.

I think this year was the best so far for me on getting some deals.
It's fun every year though.

Congrats on finishing your ASEs!
I finished that one just recently and it felt great.
First book I have ever finished in all my years of
collecting. Now I am hooked on the Danscos and breaking
open mint issued sets for the post-64 stuff.

I think it's a toss up between the Jeffersons and the
JFK halves as to which set is closest to being done.
I guess that is because the nickels are relatively
cheap and the JFKs didn't start until 64. The other
sets are bigger and/or more expensive, so they lag
behind a bit.

My Washington book appears to be filling up,
however it is a non-proof book, unlike all the others,
so I have to remind myself not to get excited when I
look at it and see so many holes filled. I need to pick
up a proof issue Washington book to match all the others.

Sounds like you did great. I really need to get back into doing shows like that.

I have been into the pace coins shop, one time. Was looking to buy some coins, but he had loaned out his grey sheet and did not know what to charge. I agree with you .. he is not really a coin guy.

I am down to 16 empty holes (pre 60) in my Jefferson Dansco. One or two more shows like that and I should be able to finish it. Well thats if I can find 39 D and 42 D .. in unc, that I like, at a good price.

The was one dealer that had a slabbed 1922 weak D Lincoln in F-12, he started out saying it was a $250.00 coin offered it to me at $220.00 .. he really did not know what he had, was pricing it wrong .. before I left he was down to $36.00 ... if it would had been a VF I would have bought it.

I noticed it was all about gold and junk silver this year.
The sharks were circling like a feeding frenzy about to happen
over anything gold or silver bullion related. I felt like the
"little guy" was flying in there under the radar... Which can
be a good thing for us collectors.

I am still waiting on my 'perfect' 39-d and s.
I got a PCGS MS67 50-d for the book, but couldn't
bring myself to break it out. Luckily I found a raw
50-d that looks nearly as nice before doing something
so rash...

One of the dealers there was from Spanish Fort. I have never dealt with him before,
but he was sharp. Nice guy, knew his stuff, and was fun to haggle with. If you
are on the west side, he'd be easy to visit. I think I am going to deal with him
more myself. As raw coins go, I got most of those from him.

That 50 D sounds like a very nice coin .. I don't think any of mine are that high.

Was the guy from Spanish Fort in the center pretty much in the back. If so, I think most of the coins I bought came from him. He had a lot of binders, that the coins were not in any order. If he has a store there I would take a trip to see that.

I think my Jefferson book may be the next one I finish .. but I think my focus might be switching back to my Lincoln 8100. I just need the last four. I think I will look for a 1909 S in VF .. then decide if I am just going to put a VF 22 weak D in the 22 no D slot. Or maybe save up and go for the S vdb ....

Do you know the guy that put on the show, Steve from Emerald coast coins in Pensacola.

He has two coin shops, The one in Pensacola and another in Milton. He is a really good guy,
Always gives me good deals on the coins I buy from him.
