I recently found a 2004 texas State Quarter which has what appears to be a Roosevelt dime stamped into the front and the back of it. On the back of the coin, dead center of the coin, you can see the circular outline of the dime, with ates of america . ME(it is in reverse) on it...my first thought was that someone hammered a dime into the back of it, but the front of the quarter has the same circle on the front, in the same spot, as if the quarter was struck with what suppose to be struck on a dime. On the front of the coin you can see roosevelts neck...also you can still make out washington and the state of texas on the back of the quarter...I know its tough without a picture, but was just wondering if coins like this do exist from the mint, with a dime being struck on both sides of a quarter, or would this have to be something done outside of the mint. Thanks for any responses!

Welcome to CCF. We would really need to see a photo of it to answer your question.

I'm going to say post mint damage based on the fact that a quarter sized planchet can't fit into the equipment made to mint dimes. A larger size coin can be minted on a smaller sized planchet but not the other way around

Washington and the State of Texas (the Lone Star, maybe?) on the same side of the quarter?

Yep, gonna need a photo (or a scan would work nicely) of that one. Both sides, please.

No photo needed but they are fun anyways

Reversed letters says only one thing.....vise job. The 2 coins were smashed or pressed together. Most of the time for fun but some people falsely pass them off as errors when they are not.

You mention the dimes lettering is reversed on the back of the quarter, I bet the dime lettering is also reversed on the obv of the quarter as well. Take a stack of coins dime, quarter, dime and smack it hard with a hammer. There you go.

I missed "ME (it is in reverse)", but I'd still like to see "washington and the state of texas on the back of the quarter". I agree now, though -it sounds like a vise or hammer job to me.

not a possible error.

It can only happen with a small to a larger size.

eg: dime to cent, cent to nickel, nickel to quarter.

so, a larger (quarter) could not be struck by a dime die.

Hey CCF, recently I found this quarter that come out of a car wash change machine, which more than likely come from a roll of quarters from the bank, but thats just my guess because the quarter was graded as (AU)...anyway this is a 2001-D New York State Quarter with a 2006-D Roosevelt dime (head side) stamped on the headside of the quarter. On the back side of the quarter there are markings unrecognizable. I will post a picture ASAP so you can see the remarkable detail this error is. Looking through an eyeloop you can see clearly and detailed the initials JS underneath the neckline of Roosevelt's head on the quarter. This image is pushed in the quarter like someone could have placed two coins together and done whatever, but that takes over 400,000 pounds of pressure let alone taken two images and doing this would only produce a smudge of images and if you know anything about metals you would now this, so that theory is impossible to produce such quality on this quarter I have, you can see each hair line, the ear, the date, this error is pristine.BBASAP
