Well, if you're just referring to Lincolns (off the top of my head):

Small/Large Dates: 1960-P&D, 1970-S, 1974-all (I believe), 1982P&D (zinc and copper cents **except for '82-D Small date not known for copper cents)

Small/Large mintmarks: 1928-S, 1941-S

Mintmark styles: 1946-S, 1979-S and 1981-S

VarietyVista is a great website to learn about the different obverses, reverses and mintmark styles over the years for Lincolns. Check it out!

It also shows what to look for in Wide AM's, Close AM's, and the reverse of '89 on an '88.

And you really can't beat the Cherrypicker's Guide if you really want to get into all the varieties that exist. In my opinion, anyway.

So Variety Vista and Cherrypicker's Guide ... also noted. Thank you!

Will see if our little library has the guide available but I haven't
noticed it listed or on the shelves as yet. Maybe they could interlibrary
loan it so I can check it out.

Thanks Coppertop :) I just happen to have one 1974 S. - plus 6 more 1974's all P's that I haven't ID'ed small or large date as yet, but I will tomorrow.

Meanwhile here is my 1974 S. Again, not great condition but I've yet to ID its date and MM. I have very few "S" cents as yet. Maybe 6 or 7 of them, 4 are different early 70's. Also have a 1951 S and 1969 S (not the biggy '69)

Mintmark styles differ for a LOT of years other than just the ones listed above.

Lincoln Cent Resource and Variety Vista have a lot of information and
images for reference I see. Lots of mint marks and their dates variations.
It sure is nice to have access to all the information these sites, including
Coppercoins date guide. Very nice of the owners to so freely share all their
obviously time consuming hard work in finding and organizing it all then allowing
everyone access like they do. VERY nice. I hope I'll be able to contribute a little
something at some point down the road because I see all the work gone into them
plus I know it costs money to publish and maintain these sites, so yes, given the
help I've already gotten from these places, I have my list of places I'd like
to kick in a bit to first chance I get ahead down the road.

One correction to the above...

1974PDS (all three mints) business strikes come in large and small date styles.

ALL known 1974S proof cents are large date.
