are you a professional photographer?
Far from it actually, LOL!

My cousin is a professional and he was kind enough to teach me some basic principals as well as guide me on what camera equipment to purchase to suit my needs. From there, just a lot of practice, trial and error, and researching on the internet.
I've had a lot of fun with it. I never thought photography would interest me, but the more I get into it, the more I like it and want to learn more.

what is your secret?
Well, I'm not trying to evade your question, so please forgive me, but there are other forum members here in the Coin Photography forum that can do a MUCH better job at explaining how to do this. There is a ton of great information in there on how to take good pictures of coins. I did (and still do) a lot of reading in there.
I can tell you that the camera I use is a Canon EOS 30D with a Tamron SP AF 90mm F/2.8 macro lens (don't ask me what all that junk means, it's what's written on the box

).
