I bought this coin last Monday, and it seems to be staying
on my mind. Most times I am very happy about making a new
purchase, but I do like money about as much as I like coins.
The thing is this is the most I have paid for a coin, other
than gold bullion coins. I know others here have paid much
more than this .. but like I have said before I am more of
a middle class type of collector.

I bought it local, there were two local experts I had look at it
and the seller stands behind it being authentic, so I am not worried there.

I guess I think along the lines or the difference between what
I bought it for and what I could sell it for. Most times I like to
get as close as I can, it seems the higher price of the coin means
the higher the spread. (spread between buy and sell price)

On the positive side I really want to finish my type set (7070)
And this is one of the last 3 holes.

I am almost afraid to ask the members here, that have bought coins like this, think I should have paid for this coin.

I hope the pictures are good enough to give idea of it's value.

It's a nice coin that might just make VF-30.

It looks VF. A fair price would have been $350 to $400 or so. I don't collect SLD but this looks like a pretty nice piece to me.

Thanks for the replies

At the coin shop as a group we thought was better than VF but not quite a XF

So we put it at VF-30, Because it was a private seller .. at the coin shop.
And of course the coin shop owner needed his cut... I paid $430.
I think in hand it looks a little better than the pictures show.

For me it does look pretty good in my Dansco.

I concur this is a nice looking VF-30. Assuming no old cleaning, it is a $400 coin. If it has some old cleaning, might knock a few bucks off the price but should still fetch $350 or so on the details grade and generally sweet appearance.

Nice acquisition!

Note that it is pretty normal to pay a slight premium when buying a coin from a local shop; I usually assume an extra 20% or so to cover their store overhead. They are doing the hobby a great service by having a nice store where kids/etc... can shop so they deserve some premium over online prices.

Im also going with VF30. You paid a little more for it but hey, you have a very nice, middle grade type coin for your set. It will only increase in value over time ;-)
Enjoy!

That's a fair price. I can't imagine a coin shop selling it for much less than $430. It's a very nice piece.

I'd call it a VF-35. It has really nice eye appeal. I took a look out on Heritage at past sales and of the 5 VF-35's I found, none had as much detail or eye appeal as yours in my opinion. So, maybe that's even a conservative grade.

While I understand the "sticker" shock you might be feeling after a big purchase like this, I think you made a good buy - it's a fair price on a nice looking coin. These Seated dollars are hard to find with good eye appeal and expensive when you do find one. When you find one at a reasonable price, you've got to go for it.

I have the same date in my 7070 and in roughly the same condition. Mine does have a small scratch on the reverse. It fell into my lap and I feel I was lucky to be able to get it.

I think that coin's going to look great in your 7070.

I really like your new coin. Do you actually have an album that you keep your Seated Liberty dollars in? I don't think I've ever seen one, just standard ones for current coins, i.e. cents, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars, ET AL.

coinzar - I bought this coin to fill one of the spots in my Dansco type set album (7070)
The type set album has spots for two different Seated Liberty dollars, no motto and motto.
The motto is on reverse, a ribbon was added above the eagle with "In God We Trust" on it.
