I have the option to buy an Indian Head from 1872, and according to Krausse this year is the most expensive one. 4,042,000 - 90.00 160 375 440 575 700 775 4,100 1,100 Starting from $90 with Good, however I know that the catalogue value is not always very accurate. So I'm really hoping some of you American collectors can help me a bit, because I can buy it for aproximatly $27,50 / $ 32,50. Is that a fair price for this coin and this grade?! Any info is appreciated!

That's a pretty fair price, but I'm curious, what does Krausse say about 1877 ? That should be the most expensive one.

hyey mainman, youre absolutly right... I overlooked that one Only 852,500 were minted of that year, starting with $750 with good! But about the 1872, I thought it would be a descent price too, but I was wondering what the grade would be. Is it Good / Very Good or Fine? Because there are some scratches on the surface... In Holland we don't see these coins that often in auctions, so I don't have much experience with the prices and so fort. So I guess I should ask Santa, if she wants to buy me one hahaha or hohoho

I believe the 1877 Indian Head cent is the most lucrative and expensive, but the 1872 is another key date. I think that you should buy the coin. $27.50/37.50 is a good deal and the coin looks pretty good.

The coin here isn't better than Good. I see some scratches across the obverse, but they look like they are on the holder? If they are on the coin, that is why the coin is so cheap. However, it's still a semi-key date, and that is a great price even with a minor problem.

1872 is considered a semi key date with 1877 and 1909s being significantly more expensive over all. There is also the 1869/69 which gets pricey as all the early 70s and late 60s. By the looks of the coin, I would grade it VG details. It looks like it has some scratches and possibly some corrosion.

I guess I should add that the price is good either way, even if a little bit damaged somehow.

I would certainly jump on that particular coin if I had the chance.

Id say buy a better one...wouldn't call that a great price because of how bad the scratches are...maybe average. Without the scratches it'd be a decent buy. Remember that the price guides don't necessarily reflect ebay prices to a T.

Buy it! Don't forget the 1867-1871 are also semi-keys but yes, the 1877 is King. Beware of counterfeits.

You can't go wrong at this price. It appears to be the "bold N" variety, the more common one.

thanks guys! I have purchased the coin for €25, aproximatly $33. I normally don't pay that much money for a single coin, but I really like those Indian Heads... and how can I resist such a 'key' date. I will post some better pictures when it arrives in my mailbox :)
