Hey I am going through my dads change and have everything organized out. Currently I have found 2.50$ in 1965-1970 40% silver quarters, and .90c in dimes from 1965-1970. I have also found .40c in Jefferson nickels from 1952-1964 90% silver. I hope I am correct on those numbers. As for lincoln cents, I kept all the good looking 2010 pennies and a few rainbow toned ones from the 80s. What else is there to look for and can I see examples so that I know what I need to see. I have my magnifying glass and cotton gloves. Are there anything in the Nickels or dimes as well? I did hang on to the 2003-2010 nickels that I found as well, no 2009 P though :(

I hate to be the one to break it to you but the quarters and dimes you found are not silver, they are clad. And the nickels are not silver either, that was only from 1942-1945. The only coin minted in 40% silver from 1965-1970 was the Kennedy half dollar. Sorry to rain on your parade like that but I had to let you know.

haha thanks blue, anyway...I did come out with a 1960 D BU type lincoln. It had lots of luster and looked quite nice. I also found a 1968 S mint. Only 1 wheat in about 1000 circulated lincolns though :(

Quote: I did come out with a 1960 D BU type lincoln Now you're making sense! LOL! You know there are large and small dates for 1960, right? And there are tons of RPM's to look for on that year, too.

Hey man that's ok don't feel bad. That is what this forum is for, to inform you of these kinds of things. And if I could give you a word of advice because I am a younger collector too (I'm 21): patience.

Hey, if it makes you feel any better a BU 1960 Lincoln is still pretty nice to find. Also, are those older Jeffersons in good shape? Because if they are, they can be worth holding on too.

As you continue with your searching, be on the lookout for those Silver War Nickels (1942-1945 ... as jrh2108 said) They are still quite findable ! With a lot of continuous searching. Even the occasional Buffalo nickel will turn up too. This "searching" can be done cheap, as you say. Just ask your parents (or if you have a bank account), to grab you $20.00 in Nickel rolls the next time they go to the bank. That would be 10 rolls at $2.00 per roll. Then you can look through them....then give them back to take to the bank again...... AND IT DIDN'T COST YOU (OR THEM) ANYTHING !! (other than the couple "keepers" you may find) You can do this with Lincoln Cents or any other denomination.....it's a great way to have a steady supply of old coins to go through....
