Thought some of you hunters out there might like this story.

today I go to the credit union--the one I go to every week to order between 200 and 500 dollars in dimes--and ask the teller, like always, if I could get between 200 and 500 in dimes. he replies "well I don't we can give you that many."

i reply "well they do it for me every week, and some times close to 1000.00 in dimes."

he sighs and walks to the back room, then emerges and says "well I just talked to the manager and he says I can't do it."

normally, i'd accept the response, IF the guy had actually spoken to the manager, but I know the manager and he was sitting at the drive through window in the opposite direction of the room the teller entered. I walked away from it without raising a stink, but now I feel like I should have gotten the guy in trouble.

Simple. Just call the manager and report him. Tell him you did not want to create a scene while you where there, especially if there were other customers waiting.

Rules I can live with. Rudeness, not so much.

Are you a member at the credit union? If yes, then the behavior has no excuse. If not, then they really have no obligation to provide you with boxes/rolls for searching as it costs them money to order these in. Either way, the guy could have handled it better and not been so rude.

I'd be careful. If I were the bank manager, and you made too much of a stink over something you've been getting away with, not entitled to, I'd show you the door and you never get them any more.

Definitely. Mention the rudeness and leave it at that. Do not pressure the manager into rectifying it right then and there. And if you are not a member, then you might want to just forget about it.

nono, I am a member. this is a new teller who seemed to be simply lazy.
it's infuriating that this new guy takes it upon himself to make such decisions, going through the obnoxious rigamarole about how they're a credit union and can't order coin blah blah blah--as if I hadn't spent more time in that bank than he had to date. I save them a lot of money over time by buying up the dimes they'd normally have to ship out, so usually they're actually really happy to give them to me.

the credit union cannot order coin so everything they have is CWR. it's a great treasure trove. I don't know how, but they do seem to have 500-1000 in dimes all from customers every week.

I think I'd go to the manager and tell the whole story. Credit unions are typically non-profit and member oriented. If the manager approves, you'll not have this problem again...and maybe the teller will stop making rules.

go back to the same teller and mention just how hard jobs are to get now a days. If he doesn't get the hint call the manager and blow him in for being rude.

He doesn't have your name does he?

Maybe they didn't have the dimes in the back room?
Could be if the bank manger instructs not to give out dimes if they dont have enough to cover other people needs for the week ?
He could be just doing his job as instructed. He may not have spoken to the overall " bank manger " but only teller Manger that runs the teller windows and front desk.

A simple solution is to call in advance a day or so.

Everyone can speculate.

Just talk to the manager. Be open, tell him what happen, and ask if there is any
problem with getting the coins. Let his answer dictate what your reaction should be.

Yes the teller is not good at dealing with customers, but your main goal is to
get the rolls of coins.

I suggest you just go back and ask a different teller for your dimes.

The time is coming when the fed will instruct the finacial institutions to sort the coins for copper and silver, it's also possible that the new teller is a collector/hoarder and doesn't want to cut his own throat.

I have seen the second senario more than once.

For one thing you never know if that teller is a relative of the manager. Also, might even be his wife's brother.
And too most banks and similar places try to make a profit and you just taking out bulk coins is not profitable. If your not a member, or a member with a rather small account, you well could be told where to go.
It's true that people that deal with the public are SUPPOSED to have good or even great manners. True this one rocked the boat but there well may be a reason so be carefull.

That's just annoying... I wouldn't make a big stink about it but simply go Let the manager know... And let that that be that... No need to get anyone in trouble, I bet next time he gets your dimes for you!

The guy sounds lazy and if I owned that bank or biz, he'd be fired on the spot. There are so many good people that need a job right now. Why do you need this clown being essentially, a customer service employee.

Technically, your are his boss and the manager's boss as well (granted, they probably have a few thousand bosses/members).

I would be diplomatic, not aggressive. Mention that you have become accustomed to the high-quality customer service and are just giving some feedback. Do not try to make it personal, but let him know you felt offended.

If your credit union is anything like mine, they are almost family. They always greet you by name and treat you better than the larger banks do. Keep this in mind and try not to make the manager feel the same way you did yesterday.
