Quote: Thanks justcarl (and to everyone else). Yes, they are just about Good. didnt think it was a fantastic price but just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting taken. thanks! Just remember, you can haggle with them on the price. That's what's nice about a coin shop. That's probably not a set in stone price.

thanks for the keys guys. I think I put a 1938 not sure mint back in my coin bank. I'll go look for it. Found a silver nickel war time and kept that one.

Quote: For some reason I find the 70's and 80's eras more beaten up and tough to find in decent condition than others...in my area it's much tougher to find a nice 1975 than a nice 1965, or even 55. The 70's especially seem to show more wear and tear and many didn't start out that great to begin with, with mushy strikes and worn dies being the norm rather than the exception. Just my opinion, based on my observations in my area. Collectors don't seem to notice what's going on. Any of the older dates is relatively available in nice XF condition. Some might cost a dollar or two and many can be found in circulation but they're out there. Something like a 1975 nickel barely exists at all in a nice XF condition. Some will say "so what" since they are cheap in Unc but the fact is they are scarcer in Unc than the '50-D. Indeed, the '75 is even getting a little tough in nice VF. A lot of these had manufacturing problems that will still be visible when they get worn to VG. Unless you're looking for low grade coins most of the post-'64 issues are much tougher than most of the older coins. There's no demand for the later coins so no one notices.

Yup, that would be easy but then it wouldn't be a full set from circ. in the meantime I can keep the silvers, buffs, and upgrade the coins as I find them. Matter of time till it shows up. 5 50ds found so we'll get there. That's actually curious you'd have trouble with the 39p .....find them all time. Lately it's been a couple per box....disappointing when I see no mint mark.

I have been saving all my nickels. I put the ones from 1960 and before into my collection. The others I roll up and just save them.

funny no one has mentioned the 94/97 matte proof jeffs. surely a mintage of 167703/25000 would make them a key.I think its because dansco has forgotten them

The 50-Ds are practically impossible to "find in the wild" nowadays as most of them were hoarded. Unless you come across them this way...

Really just the 39S and 50D are the only ones you'd want to worry about.

The 39D is the Key to this series. It is especially hard to find in the MS+ grades. The 50D was much hoarded and is pretty easy to find in MS.

Unless you come across them this way... We're all in agreement that this is an altered date '59-D are we not?
